Rent a Car at 18 in Vienna: A Guide for Young Drivers

Written by zeeke · Updated

Just passed your test and need a car for a holiday, a move or a weekend away? At many rental companies that is difficult before your 21st or even 25th birthday. At Luxury Sport Cars Vienna the minimum age is 18. This guide explains which cars suit young drivers, which documents you need and which rules apply to new drivers in Austria.

Why is renting a car under 21 often difficult?

At many rental companies the minimum age is 21, and for premium and sports cars it is often 25 or more. A young driver surcharge is also common. The reason: rental companies and insurers see young drivers with little experience as a higher risk.

With us you can rent from 18. The conditions for your chosen car are stated clearly in your quote before you book.

Which cars suit young drivers?

For your first years behind the wheel we recommend a compact automatic. It is easy to drive, easy to park and economical.

Compact and economical
The VW Polo Automatic, the Peugeot 208 Automatic and the VW Golf 8 Automatic are ideal for the city, day trips and anyone driving an unfamiliar car for the first time.
More space
For a trip with friends or lots of luggage, the Skoda Superb and the BMW 520 M-Pack offer plenty of room and comfort.
Sporty
Want something special, such as a BMW M2 Competition or a Lamborghini? For sports cars and supercars we check the conditions individually. Just ask and we will tell you openly what is possible.

What you need to rent a car

  • Minimum age: 18.
  • A valid category B driving licence. If a minimum licence holding period applies to a car, it is stated in your quote.
  • If your licence was not issued in the EU/EEA, an International Driving Permit may also be required.
  • A valid ID card or passport.
  • A security deposit. The amount and how it is handled depend on the vehicle.
  • A payment card. We confirm the accepted payment methods when you book.

How much does a rental car at 18 cost?

The price depends mainly on the car, the rental period and the season. Each vehicle page shows the starting price per day, and the booking form calculates the total for your exact times.

Please note: insurance is not automatically included in the rental price; you can add it as an extra. Especially as a new driver, we recommend checking the cover carefully. Fuel works on a return-as-received basis. Find out more in our rental prices guide.
